0-5 Lesson Plan: I Can Hear from Jesus

Note to parent or teacher: Here is a 20-minute lesson plan on taking time to listen to Jesus and follow His still small voice.

Watch "God Speaks to Samuel."

Talk about how God spoke to many people in the Bible, and because they listened and obeyed, God was able to do amazing things. Explain that we can ask for God’s help to make the right choices, and hear God’s voice throughout the day.

Ask your child about a time when Jesus spoke to him or her and how it made it easier to make the right choice. How did God’s voice sound—was it loud and obvious, or was it a quiet voice in your child’s mind or heart?

Level 2 Lesson Plan: Get Help from Jesus

Listen to the song “Here.”

Talk about how Jesus wants to help us with whatever we’re facing, good and bad—and He can do this when we take the time to talk with Him and to listen to His voice in our hearts.

ReadLet’s Chat.”

Ask the children if they can recount a time when something wasn’t going right, and they talked to Jesus and He helped them. Or recount a personal experience of Jesus helping you when something wasn’t going right.

Listen to or read “A Prayer for Me.”

Read Meditating on Jesus.

Read the verses in “Crazily Cool Card Set: Hearing from Jesus.” Have the children choose one to memorize. Print, color, and place somewhere highly frequented by the children.

Try it sometime today. You could talk with Jesus while sitting outside, bouncing gently on the trampoline for a minute or two, taking a walk, or standing in the shower. He’s looking forward to spending that time with you!

With your child, list times when he may be faced with a circumstance where it would be helpful to pause and pray and receive Jesus’ guidance.

Pray a praise prayer thanking Jesus for the guidance and direction that He gives to us when we ask.
