Here is a lesson plan that can be covered in 30 minutes, relating to the lesson objectives: “Learn of the miracles that took place in the Bible,” and “Learn of some of the lives of the great men and women of the Bible.” (Christian Life and Faith: Spiritual Insight and Awareness: Miracles-1a; Christian Life and Faith: Witnessing and Missionary Training: Great Men and Women of God-1a)
Read “Faith-Filled Models from the New Testament: Elijah, the Prophet.”
Explain the meaning of the name “Elijah,” which is “My God is the Lord.”
Ask the children what two words are needed to finish this sentence that Elijah spoke to the people of Israel. “If the Lord be God, ______ ___” (1 Kings 18:21 KJV). (Answer: follow him.)
Do you know what New Testament prophet was meant to have the spirit and power of Elijah with him? (Hint: The answer can be found in the story, “When Jesus Was Born".)
Watch sections of “Bible Stories for Kids: The Story of Elijah” or read from a Bible storybook about Elijah’s ministry. (Some parts of this video are to be skipped to protect sensitive viewers.)
Listen to the audio “Pour Out a Blessing.”
Talk about how God didn’t fail Elijah during his time of need, and how He also blessed the widow for her giving. Tell the children stories of times when God supplied for you, and how He blessed your giving.
Study or memorize from “Crazily Cool Cards Set: Giving.”
Color “Hero of the Month Coloring Page: Elijah.”
Listen to the audio “God of Miracles.”
