Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego

MP3: Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego (English)

One day, King Nebuchadnezzar set up a great golden statue. When certain music was played, everyone was supposed to bow down and worship the statue. But Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego loved and worshipped God, so they could not love and worship the statue.

King Nebuchadnezzar got very angry with them and said they must die. The three brave young men were tied up and thrown into a huge burning fiery furnace! When the king looked into the furnace, he saw them walking in the fire with a shining man who looked like the Son of God. The king asked them to come out, and out came Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. They were not burned at all!

Nebuchadnezzar saw that God could keep His children safe even in a huge fire. Then he told everyone to worship the living God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego instead of a lifeless gold statue.

*

Would you like to hear another story from the Bible?
Nebuchadnezzar, the king of Babylon, made a golden idol.
He commanded everyone to bow down to the statue,
But three courageous men said no because their God said not to!

Chorus
Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego.
You didn’t worship the image of gold.
Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego,
I want to live my life like you and be so bold.

The angry king said, “Throw those men into the fiery furnace.”
But in the flames they did not burn.
God did something so marvelous;
They came out alive and didn’t even smell of smoke.
They praised their God who saved their lives.
Let everybody know!

[Repeat Chorus]

Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego,
I want to live my life like you and be so bold.

Brave Daniel

MP3: Brave Daniel (English)

Many years later, there lived in Israel four young men named, Daniel, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. One day King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon and his army invaded Israel and captured many people, including Daniel, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, and took them away to Babylon.

Because they were very good young men, the king decided to let them work for him in his palace. One night the king had an amazing dream, but he forgot what it was! He asked his wise men to tell him what he had dreamt, but they couldn’t. So, Daniel prayed, and God showed Daniel the dream, and he explained it to the king. The king was very pleased and made Daniel his chief advisor.

But then some evil men had Daniel thrown in with dangerous and hungry lions because they were jealous. However, God sent an angel to protect Daniel and keep the lions’ mouths shut so they couldn’t harm Daniel or even bite him.

*

Chorus
Daniel, brave Daniel, was a man of prayer.
Daniel, brave Daniel, God kept him in His care.

Daniel prayed and he wasn't afraid
Of the king's decree.
He called his friends and he prayed with them,
"Lord, show the king's dream to me."
Daniel stood before the king
And told the king the truth,
"I know your dream and I'll tell you what it means,
God showed it to me too."

[Repeat Chorus]

Daniel prayed and he wasn't afraid,
He didn't think of fear.
He bowed his head and he talked to God
With all the lions near.
In the morning when the sun came up,
The king called, "Daniel, are you there?"
Daniel shouted from the lions' den,
"God kept me in His care!"

[Repeat Chorus twice]

Daniel, brave Daniel. Brave Daniel!

David, What Will You Do with Your Pebbles?

MP3: David, What Will You Do with Your Pebbles? (English)

The Philistines were the enemies of Israel, and one of them, whose name was Goliath, was a giant. The king of Israel, whose name was Saul, and all his army were so afraid that they ran away when they saw Goliath, the giant, coming. He was ten-and-a-half-feet tall and had a huge sword and shield and carried a long spear.

For forty days he frightened the entire army of Israel. David was the only one who was not afraid of him. But David was just a boy, not a soldier. What could he do?

*

God: “David, go down to the river, collect five smooth stones, and get ready with your sling.”

Verse 1
He was just a little boy who lived a simple life.
He played a harp and cared for sheep and prayed by day and night.
He took a stone and put it in his humble little sling
And warned the giant to give up before things got too hot.

Chorus 1
Oh, David, what will you do with your pebbles?
Can you help Israel out of trouble?

Verse 2
Goliath, he laughed, “Ha, ha, ha, ha!”
He mocked so carelessly. “Ha, ha, ha.”
“I am over ten feet tall,
And you are just a flea! Ha, ha, ha.”

[Repeat Chorus 1]

Verse 3
David slung the sling around, and the stone went whooshing by,
And struck Goliath by surprise, right between the eyes.
He tumbled and he stumbled, landed right at David’s feet.
The end of old Goliath. David won the victory.

Chorus 2
Oh, David, God used you with your pebbles
To help Israel out of trouble.
Oh, David, God used you with your pebbles
To help Israel out of trouble.

Baby in a Basket

MP3: Baby in a Basket (English)

Israel and his children moved to Egypt because there was a great famine in their land. The king of Egypt gave them a nice place to stay, and after hundreds of years, Israel’s children and grandchildren and great-grandchildren had grown to become millions of people.

Then there was a new ruler of Egypt who was very evil, and he made the people of Israel, or Hebrews as they were known, his slaves. He was very mean and made them work very hard. One day the cruel king ordered the people of Israel to throw their baby boys into the river and drown them. Mothers took their babies and hid them. One mother named Jochebed thought of a very clever way to save her baby. She did put him in the river, but he didn’t even get wet.

*

Chorus
Baby in a basket.
I see a baby in a basket.

Verse 1
Jochebed put her little baby boy in a little basket.
Jochebed put her little baby boy in a little basket.
The baby had to hide because the Pharaoh wasn't nice.
Jochebed put her little baby boy in a little basket.

[Repeat Chorus]

Verse 2
Little sister Miriam went with her brother to the river.
Little sister Miriam went with her brother to the river.
The basket was a boat. See the little baby float.
Little sister Miriam went with her brother to the river.

[Repeat Chorus]

Verse 3
Baby in a basket, he was discovered by the princess.
Baby in a basket, he was discovered by the princess.
She gave that babe a home and loved that baby as her own.
Baby in a basket, he was discovered by the princess.

She named him Moses.
She named him Moses.
Baby in a basket.
She named him Moses.
She named him Moses.
Baby in a basket.

Noah, Noah

MP3: Noah, Noah (English)

God loves us very much. He wants us to learn to be kind and loving to each other. But many years after He first made people, God saw that they were being very mean and bad. God found one man who was trying to do good and obey God; his name was Noah.

Noah loved the beautiful earth and the animals and all the wonderful things that God had made, and he loved God most of all. So God told Noah, “I want you to build a boat big enough for you and your family and a whole lot of animals. I’m going to cover the whole earth with water and wash away everyone that’s being so bad.”

So Noah and his family obeyed God and started building a great big boat called the Ark and started storing up food. It took Noah 120 years to build the Ark, and many of the bad people made fun of Noah, but Noah just went ahead and obeyed God. And one day, the Ark was completed; and Noah, his family, and all the animals went inside the boat and God closed the door and they waited. Suddenly they heard the pitter-patter of raindrops. The rain fell harder and harder until Noah’s boat began to float, and the whole world was flooded, even the mountaintops were covered. But Noah and all those with him in the Ark were safe because they obeyed God.

*

Chorus 1
Noah, Noah, I’ve got something to show ya’.
Wake, wake up, there’s gonna be a shake-up,
And the rain will be fallin’, fallin’, fallin’, fallin’.
(Will be fallin’, fallin’, fallin’.)
’Cause the flood is a comin’, come, a comin’, comin’.
(It’s a comin’, flood’s a comin’.)

Verse 1
Build a boat that will stay afloat. You’ve got work to do.
You need help, you can’t do it yourself, call your sons and daughters, too.
Go for, go for, go for it, using gopher wood and tar.
Paint all the cracks in so there’s no leakin’, and let’s call it the Ark.
(We got a lotta work to do.)

Repeat Chorus 1

Verse 2
Once you’re done, you’re gonna have some fun calling animals two by two:
Kangaroos and emus, elephants, lions, horses, hippos. Oh, and don’t forget the straw.
There’ll be roarin’, chirpin’, barkin’, meowin’, howlin’, growlin’, honkin’, and hee-haws.
A circus night and day, hip, hip, hooray! It’ll be happenin’ in the Ark.

Chorus 2
Noah, Noah, once the rain is over,
Shake, shake off all the water and take off.
There’s dry land to discover, all over, and all over.
(Shake, shake off, shake, shake off.)
And you’ll be so happy, the rain is over, yes, all over.
(Shake, shake.)

Bridge
But, it’s not over yet, let go of all your pets
And look to the heavenly skies.
You’ll see a rainbow there, then you’ll know I care,
My promise from Me to you!
(And to your sons and daughters too.)

Repeat Chorus 1

Noah, Noah, I’ve got something to show ya’!
(That’s right.)

Gideon Was Brave

MP3: Gideon Was Brave (English)

Only three hundred men were with Gideon that night,
And his enemies were the Midianites.
They were a host that filled the valley wide,
But Gideon had the Lord by his side!

“Do as I do!” Gideon called out,
And his three hundred men gave a roar and a shout!

Chorus 1
Gideon was brave ’cause he believed
That God had promised him victory.
Gideon was brave ’cause he was trusting the Lord,
And the winning of the victory was his reward.

Though they were few, though they were small,
They had the greatest power of all.

They were blowin’ on their trumpets.
They were breakin’ all their jars.
They held up their lanterns, and made the enemy run, run far away.

Chorus 1
Gideon was brave ’cause he believed
That God had promised him victory.
Gideon was brave ’cause he was trusting the Lord,
And the winning of the victory was his reward.

Chorus 2
Let’s be strong, and let’s believe
That God has promised us victory.
Let’s be brave, and let’s be trusting the Lord,
For the winning of the victory is our reward.
