When Jesus Was a Little Boy

MP3: When Jesus Was a Little Boy (English)
1 of 2

Hardly anyone knew how important Jesus was when He was a little boy. Hardly anyone knew that He was the Son of the King of the whole universe, who someday would rule the world with love and peace forever. You never would’ve guessed that when He was a little boy because He was so much like you and me. He ran and played. He probably cried when He fell and scraped His knee. And, of course, He got hungry and tired and had to take naps when He was little. He liked to help Joseph in the carpentry shop and go for long walks and do fun things.

None of His friends knew who He really was, but they liked Him very much.

When Jesus was a little boy,

He lived in Galilee.

He climbed the hills and played with friends

And laughed like you and me.

He learned to be a carpenter

And helped His mommy with the chores.

He learned some lessons just like me

And probably got some bumps and sores.

Each year He grew so strong and tall;

He had lots of wisdom too.

God prepared His heart and mind

For the work that He would do.

When Jesus grew to be a man,

He travelled far, He travelled wide.

He was a friend to all in need

All throughout the countryside.

Jesus, since You were a child like me, then You know what’s going on inside of me, even in those secret ways. You understand and know what I’m going through. Thank You for coming to live in our world, and for all that You learned so You could better understand me and be my dearest friend. Amen.

Coloring Pages: Little Donkey

1 of 2

Little donkey, little donkey,
On the dusty road.
Got to keep on plodding onwards,
With your precious load.

Been a long time, little donkey,
Through the winter's night.
Don't give up now, little donkey,
Bethlehem's in sight.

Little donkey, little donkey,
Had a heavy day.
Little donkey, carry Mary
Safely on her way.

Do not falter, little donkey,
There's a star ahead.
It will guide you, little donkey,
To a cattle shed.

The Savior Is Born

Based on Luke 2:1–20

Scene 1

Narrator: Around the time when Jesus was to be born, the Roman emperor, Caesar Augustus, ordered a census to be taken throughout the Roman Empire. A census is a count of the people living in a certain area.

Soldier: Caesar Augustus, the emperor of Rome, orders that everyone in the empire must register his name and property. Everyone must return to the place they are originally from to register and pay taxes.

Scene 2
Narrator: Joseph’s family was from Bethlehem, a small town close to Jerusalem. So Joseph and Mary journeyed to Bethlehem.

It was a long and tiring voyage, and Mary was soon to give birth to the baby. Day after day they walked on, until they finally arrived in Bethlehem.

Scene 3

Mary: Joseph, I am so tired! Let’s find a place to stay.

Joseph: Yes, Mary, it has been a long journey. I’ll ask if there is room here.

Joseph, to innkeeper: We have traveled a long way, and my wife is very tired. We need a place to stay.

Innkeeper: I am so sorry! Bethlehem is very crowded these days. So many people have come to register that I have no room left.

Scene 4

Innkeeper: The only place I can offer you for the night is a bed of straw in my stable.

Mary: Thank you, kind sir! We’ll be happy to stay here.

Scene 5

Joseph: It is not much, but at least we can rest for the night, and the animals will keep us warm.

Mary: Joseph, the baby will be born tonight!

Joseph: Let me prepare a place for you.

Scene 6/7

Narrator: Joseph made a small bed of straw for Mary, and there in this humble place, Mary gave birth to her first son, Jesus. She wrapped him in cloths and laid him gently in the manger.

Mary: There, my little baby, rest now.

Scene 8

Narrator: That same night, not too far away from the town, shepherds were watching their sheep on the hills. When, suddenly, an angel appeared!

Angel: Don’t be afraid! I bring you good news. Tonight in Bethlehem, the Savior was born, Christ the Lord. You will find the baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.

Scene 9

Narrator: Then a multitude of angels appeared in the sky singing praises to God: “Glory to God in heaven, and peace on earth to all men.”

Shepherd 1: Let’s go to Bethlehem to see the baby!

Shepherd 2: Quickly! Let’s go see.

Scene 10

Narrator: The shepherds found and entered the stable, where they saw Mary, Joseph, and the baby, just as the angels had told them.

Shepherd 1: Thank You, God, for sending the Savior and letting us see Him!

Shepherd 2: The Savior has been born tonight!

Mary: His name is Jesus!

For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, … And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Isaiah 9:6 NIV

Coloring Book: Baby Jesus in the Hay

1 of 3

"Baaa!" said the sheep, and the cow said, "Mooo!"
"We're glad you're here. We'll make room for you!"
The donkey awoke and went, "Hee-haw!"
He said, "You can have my bed of straw!"

While Mary lay on her soft straw bed,
A bright star shone overhead,
And then before the break of morn,
The Son of God Himself was born!

The doves above gave a lovely "cooo."
The sheep said, "Baaa!" And the cow said, "Mooo!"
Where did the Baby Jesus lay?
All snug and warm, where the cows eat hay!
--Emily Hunter

“[Mary] gave birth to her first child, a son. She wrapped him snugly in strips of cloth and laid him in a manger, because there was no lodging available for them” (Luke 2:7 NLT).
