Note to parent or teacher: Here’s a 20-minute lesson plan on the names of Jesus. It highlights the following lesson objective: “Learn of the many names of Jesus throughout the Bible.” (Christian Life and Faith: Biblical and Christian Foundation: Jesus—God’s Son-2d)
Read “The Names of Jesus, Part 1.”
Review some of the reasons why it’s beneficial to learn about the different names of Jesus that were listed in the article. (Answers: “they tell us about His character, about who He is, and what He does for us. They help us understand Him, and help us learn how to interact with Him in many deeper ways.”)
Take out two sheets of paper. Randomly select five alphabet letters, then see who can find a name of Jesus for each of the five alphabet letters that were picked. Refer to this list to see what other names of Jesus there are.
Tell your child what one of your favorite names of Jesus is and why. Now ask your child the same.
Sing and/or learn "Let's Talk About Jesus."
Write down the names of Jesus listed in this song, and then have your child draw a picture of some of them.
Pray a praise prayer, with everyone using all the many names of Jesus as a springboard for appreciating all that He is to us.
Just for fun, try this quiz on Bible characters and their names. (Hint: The more you know about the characters’ background, the easier you’ll find it to guess their name.)
Optional activity: Pulling from a list of the names of Jesus, your child can create a word search puzzle for a friend or parent. Click here, for a link to creating your own word search puzzles.
