Note to the parent or teacher: Here is a 20- to 30-minute lesson plan to fill out the post “Cities of the Bible: The City of Bethlehem.” It goes with the lesson objective “Learn about Jesus’ birth (as celebrated at Christmas), early life, and years before His ministry began.” (Christian Life and Faith: Biblical and Christian Foundation: Jesus, God’s Son-1b).
Read the first two paragraphs of “Cities of the Bible: The City of Bethlehem,” Genesis 35:19, and Genesis 48:7.
Discuss with your child what he remembers about Jacob. Perhaps read a Bible story book about Jacob and Esau (Genesis 25:20–34, 27–28, 32–33), and how Jacob eventually became known as Israel.
Read 1 Samuel 17:12.
Review with your child the story of when God led Samuel to anoint David to be the next king of Israel. (If time permits, you can read this story in 1 Samuel 16:1–13.)
Read the third paragraph of “Cities of the Bible: The City of Bethlehem,” Micah 5:2, and Matthew 2:1–6. (See also, “Messianic Prophecies and Their Fulfillment, Part 1” page 5.)
Read the fourth paragraph of “Cities of the Bible: The City of Bethlehem,” Luke 2:1–4, and Matthew 2:1.
Read the fifth paragraph of “Cities of the Bible: The City of Bethlehem.”
Look up Bethlehem with Google Maps. You can zoom out to see the location of Bethlehem in relationship to Jerusalem.
