Level 2 Lesson Plan: The City of Babylon

Note to the parent or teacher: Here is a 30- to 45-minute lesson plan to fill out the class “Cities of the Bible: The City of Babylon,” that goes with the lesson objective “Learn the major stories of the Old Testament” (Christian Life and Faith: Bible Knowledge: General Bible Knowledge-1d).

REVIEW PARAGRAPH 1:

Read Genesis 11:1–9 about the Tower of Babel.

REVIEW PARAGRAPHS 2 and 3:

Read the chapters below about some of the adventures of Daniel and his friends in Babylon. After reading them, see if the children can name the four kings Daniel served. (Answer: Nebuchadnezzar, Belshazzar, Darius, and Cyrus. This information can be found in chapters 1, 5, and 6.)

Match the Hebrew and Babylonian names of the four Hebrew friends (answers are found in Daniel 1:7):

BABYLON TODAY:

View on this map where the ruins of Babylon are found today. Zoom out and you will see the ruins are located south of Baghdad in modern-day Iraq.
