Note to parent or teacher: Here’s a 30- to 40-minute lesson plan on messianic prophecies and how they were fulfilled through Jesus Christ. It highlights the following lesson objective: “Be able to identify messianic prophecies in the Bible and connect them with their historical fulfillment.” (Christian Life and Faith: Biblical and Christian Foundation: Jesus, God’s Son-2f)

Ask your children how many years separate Malachi—the last book in the Old Testament—from Jesus’ birth. See if they can guess the correct answer. (Answer: approximately 400 years.) Point out that this means that the prophecies announcing Jesus’ coming were given hundreds of years before Jesus’ time.

Have the children look up the definition of “prophetic” in a dictionary. Talk about how throughout the history of the world God has anointed people to give His messages to the world, and how sometimes these messages are supernatural and divine predictions of the future—as shown by the messianic (and many other) prophecies He gave to the prophets during Old Testament times.

Watch “Messianic Prophecies.” (4:22 min. clip) You may want to explain that the “story” the man reads regarding the coming Messiah is taken from Old Testament verses.

Read “Messianic Prophecies and Their Fulfillment, Part 1.” As you read this article, have your children look up either the prophecy and/or the fulfillment in their Bibles.

Discuss how messianic prophecies reveal much about the nature of God: that He is omniscient (has total knowledge of everything), and that His sending Jesus to earth was part of His plan for mankind’s salvation.

Look up Isaiah 46:9–10 for further discussion on God’s omniscience.

Read “Messianic Prophecies and Their Fulfillment, Part 2.” As you read this article with your children, have your children look up either the prophecy and/or the fulfillment in their Bibles.

Ask your children which prophecy seems the most outstanding to them.

Look up and read the additional messianic prophecy references listed on page 6 of “Messianic Prophecies and Their Fulfillment, Part 2.”
