Note to parent or teacher: This 20-minute lesson plan highlights the following lesson objective: “Learn that within God’s Word lies the story of mankind’s past and future, the purpose of life, the blueprint for living a godly life, etc.” (Christian Life and Faith: Biblical and Christian Foundation: God’s Word-2a)
Read “The Things that Really Count.”
Read “‘Me First’ Values or Heavenly Values, Part 1.”
Talk about the values that Jesus considers important, which are laid out in the Bible. Get a sheet of paper and brainstorm two lists: one featuring “me first” values, and the other listing “heavenly” values.
Read “‘Me First’ Values or Heavenly Values, Part 2.”
Discuss how it’s natural to be concerned with yourself and to think first about what might please or make you happy. Next, talk about how the wisdom of God, as shown in the Bible, is very different from man’s wisdom. Read 1 Corinthians 1:25. Discuss examples of this; for example, the Bible tells us that when we place importance on caring and giving and other manifestations of love, this is the thing of true worth and value and we will be blessed in return. (Read “The ‘Giving and Receiving’ Principle.”)
Read one of the “Choose Things of Value” articles listed in the additional material section.
End your devotions by emphasizing how God’s Word is the source of finding the things of true value in our lives.
Read or memorize one of the verses in “Crazily Cool Card Set: God’s Word.”
