Friday, April 13, 2012

Note to parent or teacher: Here’s a 40-minute lesson plan on Hebrews chapter 11 (can be divided into three parts), which highlights the following lesson objectives: “Learn of the importance faith plays in one’s spiritual life: that one is saved by faith (grace), that one must live one’s faith, that faith gives spiritual strength and power, and that without it one cannot please God; study and memorize Bible verses upon which these principles are based. Read faith-building accounts from history of those who put their faith in God and were blessed by God for their actions.” (Christian Life and Faith: Biblical and Christian Foundation: Faith-2b,f)

Part One

Listen to “Audio: Hebrews 11.”

Read “Adventures in Hebrews 11, Part 1.”

ReadDo You Believe?” See how many things you and your child can come up with that you’ve never seen, but that you know are real.

Talk about some present (child-appropriate) situations in your life that require faith, and how God gives you the strength to face such things when you need it. Ask your child what things in his life require faith. For each situation discussed, find an encouraging Bible story or promise that will boost your faith for the difficult circumstance.

Print out, color and cut “Crazily Cool Card Set: Faith—Stand on It!” Have your child choose one verse from this set to memorize today.

Part Two

Read Adventures in Hebrews 11, Part 2.”

ReadPerseverance on the Trail of Faith.” Talk about how the people mentioned in Adventures in Hebrews 11, Part 2,” probably had worries and concerns regarding doing what God was asking them to do; they weren’t perfect. Faith is choosing to put your trust in God rather than focusing on your fears or reservations.

Tell your child of a time (or times) in your life when God did something for you as a result of your faith in His promises, or because of a prayer you prayed.

Look up Hebrews 11:11–12 for the story of Sarah and the promised boy, Isaac.

From page 5 of Adventures in Hebrews 11, Part 3,” look up the stories of Gideon, Barak, Samson, Jephthah, David, or Samuel in a Bible or children’s picture Bible. Discuss what aspect of these men’s lives required faith.

DoBible Quiz: Hebrews 11 Heroes.” Send in your answers by April 24th, 2012, for a chance to see your name in lights.

Look up Hebrews 11:39–40. The Messiah—Jesus Christ and the new covenant He ushered in—was the promise that those mentioned in the last two verses of Hebrews 11 were waiting for. They did not live to see Jesus’ physical appearance on earth, but they had faith that God would fulfill that promise.
