Note to parent or teacher: Here is a 20- to 30-minute lesson plan on the following lesson objectives: “Learn that believers are admonished in the Bible to give thanks; that one’s praises accomplish many purposes, one of which is making Jesus happy, another is that it benefits one’s spirit,” and “Learn to recognize the many blessings that one has been given, and learn to express praise and thankfulness to Jesus for them.” (Christian Life and Faith: A Personal Connection with Jesus: Praise and Thanksgiving-1a,b)
Listen to the audio of “Psalm 100.” Talk about how we’re meant to approach God in a spirit of praise and thanksgiving; verses 1, 2, and 4.
Fill in the crossword “Show Thankfulness” after reading Luke 17:11–19, and answer the question on page 2. (The answer key can be found here.)
Listen to “A Poem of Thankfulness.” (Coloring pages can be found here.) Think of four other things you are thankful for and tell Jesus why you are thankful for them. An additional activity: Take a piece of paper and write at the top “Four things I’m thankful for” and draw a picture of each one on the paper.
Read “Why Do We Like Jesus.”
Read “Creation + You and Me.” Next time you are outside together, take some time to thank Jesus for something you appreciate about His creation.
Pray a prayer from “Pray a Way: Thankfulness.” Also, enjoy the accompanying coloring page.
Memorize a verse from “Crazily Cool Card Set: Praise and Thankfulness.” Print the cards out so the children can color them and add them to their set of Crazily Cool Cards.
Did you know that your prayers are more effective when you include praise and thanksgiving to God in your prayer? “Bookend Prayers with Praise.”
