0–5 Lesson Plan: What Can My Prayers Do?
Monday, January 28, 2019

Note to parent or teacher: Here is a 30-minute 0–5 lesson plan on the power of one’s prayers and how to use them to help others, draw closer to Jesus, make a difference, express gratitude, and more.

Read the first page of “Prayer Can….” Then, starting on pages two and three, after each point covered in the article, talk about what prayers can do and how prayers can make a difference. For example, ask, “How can prayer draw you closer to Jesus?” Some possible answers could be: Because when you pray, you are talking to Jesus; or when you pray, you can also listen to Jesus and hear what He has to say, etc.

Have the children list three people who could use your prayers, either because they would benefit from help with doing something, are sick, or are in need of something. Then take a few minutes to pray for those people, asking God to be with them and help them in their situations.

Have each child draw a picture of something that they would like Jesus’ help with, either personally or for someone else. In a corner of their picture, write the verse: “The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective” (James 5:16 NIV). Encourage them to put the picture by their beds so they are reminded to pray for that situation when they lie down for sleep each night.

Close by praising Jesus for the power of prayer. Thank Him for His help to use prayer throughout the day not only to ask Him for help or for things, but also to praise Him for His loving care.
