Note to parent or teacher: Here’s a 20- to 30-minute class plan on God’s Word. It highlights the following lesson objective: Respect and treasure God's Word, and understand the importance of keeping and obeying God's Word; study and memorize Bible verses upon which these principles are based. (Christian Life and Faith: Biblical and Christian Foundation: God’s Word-1b)

The general target age for this class is 3 through 6. You can adapt, simplify, or expound on this lesson plan to better suit your child’s comprehension level. Activities that may be better suited for older children within the 4 through 7 age range are marked with an asterisk.

Listen to “In the Bible,” and “New Testament.” If your child likes to dance, you can have your child dance to the song. After the song is done, talk about how the Bible is like God’s letters to us. It tells us where we came from, where we are going, and how to live godly lives.

Look up the following Bible verses: Psalm 37:31 and 2 Peter 1:4a.

* Read the article “What Is the Bible,” or one like it.

Watch “Video: The Parables of Jesus: The Two Builders,” and/or “The Wise and Foolish Man.”

Discuss how the rock in the parable symbolizes God’s Word. Talk about what happens when we build the house of our lives on Jesus’ teachings, and what could happen if we do not. Apply this to everyday situations that you face with your child, and what he or she can do to obey Jesus’ teachings in his or her daily life.

Read “Bright Pebbles: A Bright Light.” After reading this article, act out the “action” at the end of the slideshow.

Memorize the verse, “Your word is a lamp to my feet, and a light for my path” (Psalm 119:105 NIV). If your child likes to draw, have your child illustrate this verse, and write out the verse at the bottom of the picture. Put it up by your child’s bed or some other place your child will be able to see it daily.

Memorize the following poem (or learn the song):

The B-I-B-L-E!
That’s the book for me!
I stand upon
The Word of God
The B-I-B-L-E!

Additional activities:

• With your children, build a LEGO or DUPLO house. As you play, highlight the importance of building a strong foundation for your house, so that it won’t easily fall over.
• * Do a Google search on “interesting Bible statistics,” or “amazing Bible facts,” and read some of the interesting facts about the Bible with your child.
