Note to parent or teacher: Here’s a 20-minute lesson plan on forgiving others.
Praise activity: Have each child praise Jesus for a time when they made a mistake or did something accidentally that caused a difficulty for another person, but the other person forgave him/her. (For example: "Thank You, Jesus, that even though I spilled my milk this morning at the breakfast table, and it poured all over my mom's dress, she said it was okay. She was kind and helped me to find a cloth to wipe up the spill, and then gave me some more milk.")
Watch "A Friendly Thing Called Forgiveness."
Read Matthew 18:21–22.
Ask the children how many times they would like to be forgiven for the mistakes that they make. Discuss that we should extend the same amount of forgiveness to others that we would like to receive ourselves.
Watch "We All Make Mistakes." After watching the music video, discuss how when others make mistakes, we can choose to get angry or to forgive.
Read “Be Kind.”
Read “Bright Pebbles: As We Forgive Others.”
Memorize Matthew 6:14.
Close with the Lord's Prayer found in Matthew 6:9–13.
