Here is a 20-minute 0–5 lesson plan on what it means to forgive others when you have been saddened or hurt by someone’s actions and the importance of forgiveness.
Read “Character ABC: F Is for Forgiveness”
Talk about how forgiveness is a choice that a person has to make—it’s not a feeling. Discuss when someone does something wrong to you, the first step you take is to choose to forgive the person.
Watch “Video: The Parables of Jesus: The Prodigal Son”
Talk about how the father in this story forgave his son—even though his son had made wrong choices, the father still loved him and received him back with open arms. Explain that Jesus is like the father in that story. He sees our faults, but He is always full of love for us, and wants to help us to make things right when we admit a wrongful act and try to do what’s right.
