AKA: The Virgin Mary, Mary the Mother of Jesus
Startling fact: Sometimes God does things that are definitely not what most people would approve of. Instead of introducing His Son, the king of the whole universe, in a golden chariot with spotlights and fireworks, God chose an ordinary young woman to be the mother of the Savior, and He chose a stable as His birthplace.
Coolest trait: When told by the angel Gabriel that she would give birth to God’s Son, Mary accepted God’s will, saying, “I am the servant of the Lord; let it be to me according to your word”,1 showing faith and trust in God’s power and plan for her life, even when it seemed so absurd.
Did you know? While pregnant with Jesus, Mary praised and magnified God in a beautiful hymn now known as the Magnificat, saying: “He hath put down the mighty from their seats, and exalted them of low degree. He hath filled the hungry with good things; and the rich he hath sent empty away.” Read Luke 1:46–55 for the full psalm.
You can too: Believe that God likes to use the humble and the lowly to showcase His greatness.
