(Matthew 27:54 KJV)
"Truly This Was the Son of God"
After Jesus prayed in the Garden of Gethsemane, He was arrested and taken to appear before Caiaphas, the high priest, as well as a council of the Scribes and elders.
The council did not believe that Jesus was the Son of God. They accused Him unjustly for claiming to be God’s Son, and then condemned Him to be put to death.
Under Roman law, the Jewish council did not have the authority to put someone to death. So they took Jesus to the Romans to be tried and executed. The soldiers then took Jesus to a hill, known as “Golgotha,” where He was crucified on a cross.
However, many people believed that Jesus was the Son of God. Even a Roman soldier who watched Jesus die on the cross said: “Truly this was the Son of God!” (Matthew 27:54 KJV)
