Naomi and her daughter-in-law, Ruth, had no one to look after them. Both of their husbands had died. They had no friends and were very poor and hungry.
Ruth had an idea. “I know where we can get some food,” she said. “It’s harvest time. I will go out into the fields and pick up any barley or wheat that the farmers drop.”
A kind farmer named Boaz saw Ruth picking up the bits of grain and said to his men, “Be sure to drop big handfuls of grain for that woman to have.” He was very kind to Ruth and decided to take care of her and Naomi.
Ruth went walking through the fields
Gathering barley and wheat.
She brought some home for Naomi too,
More than enough to eat.
Chorus 1
Gathering barley and wheat.
Gathering barley and wheat.
She brought some home for Naomi too,
More than enough to eat.
Boaz owned the fields of grain.
Kindly and good was he.
He married Ruth and took care of her,
And they lived happily.
Chorus 2
Kindly and good was he.
Kindly and good was he.
He married Ruth and took care of her,
And they lived happily.
Chorus 3
Gathering barley and wheat.
Gathering barley and wheat.
He married Ruth and took care of her,
And they lived happily.
