Old Testament: King Solomon and the Temple
Wednesday, August 27, 2014

King David ruled Israel for many years. After his death, his son, Solomon, became ruler. During King Solomon’s reign, the kingdom enjoyed peace, and Solomon established good relations with the neighboring kingdoms.

King Solomon became famous for his wisdom, wealth, and writings. One of his most recognized achievements was the building of the temple in Jerusalem.

This temple took seven years to complete. It was built of stone, as well as with cedar wood from the kingdom of Tyre that was carved and overlaid with gold.

After the completion of the temple, the Ark of the Covenant, which had never had a permanent home, was placed inside. It was truly a magnificent temple.

You can read about the building of the temple in 1 Kings chapters 5–7.
