“Aren’t the stars pretty, Felix?” five-year-old Tessa asked her cat as she lay in the grass in the backyard. “Look how they twinkle!”
Felix replied with a scratch and a yawn.
“Felix, did you know that God made the stars? In fact, Mr. Charles at Sunday school said that God made everything! Mr. Charles said we can show our appreciation for everything by thanking God.”
“For flowers that bloom about our feet,” Tessa quoted, “Father, we thank Thee.
“For tender grass so fresh, so sweet,
Father, we thank Thee.
For the song of bird and hum of bee,
For all things fair we hear or see,
Father in heaven, we thank Thee.”1
“What are you grateful for, Felix?” Tessa asked her cat.
Felix twitched his tail and meowed.
“I like the soft grass too,” Tessa giggled.
“And I like to play with my friends. I’m glad they could visit today for my birthday party. I’m happy for my family and my home.” Tessa spread her arms wide. “I am this glad for everything!”
Felix licked his paws in agreement.
“Tessa,” called her mother from the house. “It’s time for bed!”
Tessa picked Felix up and stroked his fur as she went inside. “Thank You, God, for everything!” she said.
Have you taken time today to thank God? Take some time to count your blessings and to remember God’s goodness to you, His child.
