Proverb: Giving help to the poor is like loaning money to the Lord. He will pay you back for your kindness.1
Compassion is a way you show others kindness. Rather than just feeling sad for someone who is in need, compassion will motivate you to look for a way to help that person. Compassion puts the needs of another before your own.
Sometimes you do not realize how blessed you are until you see someone who is without. When you see someone in need, you can show compassion in your actions and words. Offer to help a friend who needs a hand. Give to those who do not have much. Share a kind word to support and lift others up.
Compassion is a way of caring for others without expecting anything in return. It is giving from your heart to others.
Bible Character Highlight
Jesus was very compassionate to those He met. Once when Jesus was in a crowd, a woman who was very sick reached out and touched the hem of His robes believing that touching Jesus would heal her. Jesus felt the touch and stopped. He asked who had touched Him, and when the woman came forward and explained why she had touched Him, Jesus showed compassion. He told her that her faith had made her well—she was healed!
Read about this example of Jesus showing compassion in Luke 8:43–48.
